Description

Industrial Heritage Reimagined Through Purposeful Light

For the comprehensive renovation of Molex’s 108,600 square foot facility in Fremont, lighting was conceived as a bridge between technical excellence and a vibrant corporate culture. Transforming a 1983-built structure into a high-performance hub, the design mirrors the precision of Molex’s engineering while fostering a modernized environment for research, production, and collaboration.

The approach focused on intentional versatility, creating an environment that feels disciplined in technical zones and warm in social spaces. From Class 10K cleanrooms and pilot manufacturing lines to open offices and employee amenities, the lighting responds to the specific rigor of each program. By layering clean, controlled illumination with dynamic accents, we ensured visual clarity where it’s needed most while maintaining a sense of openness and wellness throughout the campus.

Light was used to reinforce the architecture of innovation. In the new two-story lobby, the interplay of daylight and refined electric lighting creates a sense of transparency and arrival. Throughout the facility, subtle shifts in intensity define the transitions between high-precision laboratories and collaborative "huddle" zones, creating a cohesive experience that guides movement and supports the everyday rhythm of the workforce.

Collaboration was central to the technical execution. Working closely with the design and MEP teams, the lighting and smart control systems were seamlessly integrated to optimize energy efficiency and operational flexibility. The result is a forward-looking environment that stands as a physical expression of the Molex brand: a workplace grounded in technology, sustainability, and human connection.
